I think I should add here that at least from what I have heard (admittedly secondhand), the points per tossup are not as important for comparing between regions as points on bonii. Meaning that within a region, it's points per tossup that dominate the formula but because there is an adjustment for overall strength based on bonus conversion, comparing against teams in other regions bonus conversion seemed to dominate. This is just based on my looking at the results, though what I've heard about the NAQT formula might back this up (but I have no direct knowledge of it). Regardless, it was announced ahead of time that the bids would be stats-based rather than record-based with a small adjustment for record, so that's what I meant about things being announced ahead of time. Anyway, I enjoyed playing against all of the teams we faced in sectionals and certainly think from playing Maryland and G.W. that both deserve to be at the ICT, but with a smaller field, it may well be that none of the three of us will make it. Regardless, I definitely agree with Eric (and this is the point I was making) that even if there were something wrong with the system this year, it would have been unfair to change that system between the sectional tournaments and the announcement of qualifiers. Anyway, good luck to all those that made it to Nationals, and while I'm writing something people might read, I might as well make a plug for y'all to come to Princeton for our college tournament. :) Charles Princeton B
