Having recently checked out the message board, I was amused to discover that everyone's favorite new March tradition of dubious importance, Andy Goss's March Madness, has lurched to a halt right in the middle of the festivities. Now I will be the first to admit that I have little to no interest in the "event" myself, but from what I have gathered, a good number of people have invested some of their free time taking part in this. According to several known associates of the esteemed Mr. Goss, the reason for the now week-long delay is that this is Duke's spring break, and that he either can't, or doesn't want to, run this until he returns to Durham. The question now begs itself: What could he have done otherwise? Well, he might have shown some forethought and held this event during a time when he would ba available to run it. Or he might have turned the reins over to some one else for a week. Or, if he deemed this time period the only one that would work, and if he wanted to serve as ringleader for the duration, AND he didn't want to bother with it over spring break, he could have at the very least had the courtesy to let those who have been following the event know of the delay and the reason(s) for it. But, alas, none of these things have been done, and what we are left with is an abruptly terminated event which Goss managed to get a number of people invested in only to leave hanging without so much as a message explaining why (how long would that have taken, 5 minutes?). Well done, Mr Goss! It's good to know you have learned so very much from your numerous previous screwups. But, deep down in my shriveled heart, know that I am always thankful for your presence in quizbowl, for even us confirmed hardcore quizbowl junkies like to behold your delightful dance with ineptitude.
