Well, keep in mind that this IS Toledo. Here are my
thoughts:

1. Of the 13 schools in the MAC, U. of Toledo is
second to last in academics (ahead of Marshall). That
puts them behind Bowling Green, Eastern Mich., Central
Mich., Ohio U., Kent State, Northern Illinois, and
Buffalo, among others.

2. My impression is that
Toledo was more of a blue-collar town than a
white-collar one. I'm certainly no expert on this--this is
just from my observations of the area.

3. I've
seen some of the articles from the Toledo Blade (I
spent WAY too much time Thursday looking up things
about the history of the Ohio Cannon, the RFL team in
1999 who changed their name halfway through the season
to the Toledo Cannon for some reason and who played
most of their home games at whatever high school they
could find on a given weekend). They're not good. Some
of them are worse than articles from my old high
school newspapers (and those were FAR from
impressive).

4. This is the city that is the home of the high
school QB show Brainstorm. In fact, they even have an
online quiz. Here were some of the questions from last
month:

What U.S. state has the most representatives in the
House of Representatives?

What is composed of
antiparticles? (yes, this one IS that easy)

It's
Toledo. Somehow, I'm not surprised. Of course, that's
just my opinion. I could be wrong.

I feel the
same way--it couldn't have happened to a nicer person
than Kevin. That was my thought from the moment I
found out he had won after his taping had been
done.

And as for the music composition thing, I do a little
keyboard composing and improv on the side, though more of
it tends toward the more classical side than the pop
side. I have the tools to do both and would like to do
more of the latter, but the former relates so well to
the research I'm doing that it just kind of happens
that way.
