I hate to nitpick, but we have a small flaw in logic here. I can understand someone suggesting that the qb list is redundant and asking if people think it should be resurrected. The problem is, that question is being asked only of those of us who are on the Yahoo! list. Anyone who's on qb but not Yahoo! (and there are many, for different reasons) isn't being asked that question. (I cross-posted an earlier version of this message to qb so those folks would know what we were discussing.) I'm on both, of course, but I can see four compelling reasons to keep both alive and cross-post where appropriate: (a) Each system has crashed before. Redundancy isn't such a bad thing under those circumstances. And as if to prove my point, Yahoo! bombed on me earlier this afternoon the first 3 times I tried posting this message. (b) The volume on Yahoo! appears higher than it ever was on qb, and much as we love the game, not everyone wants to know that much about it. I know people who have not signed up on Yahoo! for that very reason. (c) Dropping the qb list would leave the community dependent on Yahoo!, which is a distant corporate entity whose leaders have probably never heard of quizbowl. What if Yahoo! changes ownership, or privacy policies, or some such? We'd be stuck. Even as it is, there are some people who are reluctant to go Yahoo! because of privacy concerns. Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth; with the 2 communications vehicles, just like with ACF and NAQT, I see both as valid and will participate in both.
