Maybe it's just me, but I long for the time when
quizbowl was much less complicated. It was a time when
people took simple joy in topics such as VVBs and what
made a good question. Now everything is just getting
too bizarre and frightening.
Does anybody else
just remember sitting down, hearing "This country,
with its capital at Thimpu...", and happily buzzing
in? The excitement of checking a scoresheet that had
been printed on a dot matrix printer, or of checking
Cascade Watch to update your killfile? Now it just seems
like the only things that come up are Beall-related
anarchist libertarian plots, the NAQT selection cabal,
rigged TV game shows, and estrogen conspiracies with
nationalist and criminal overtones.
What happened?
