Here are the results of the Chicago Open Singles tournament, which I believe had the strongest field of any singles tourney since Minnesota 3 years ago. This tournament was played mostly on questions by Matt Weiner, with some help in later rounds from leftover questions from Subash. The format was modified from the traditional Hilleman format in order to allow for double elimination given the lower # of questions we had available. (If anyone wants more details, email me.) Anyways, on to the results: Kelly Mc (Mac?) Kenzie beat Andrew by 15 in the finals match in order to secure a victory after a thrilling losers' bracket final between Andrew and Adam Kemezis which Andrew won by 5. (Adam had beaten Andrew by 5 in an earlier match.) 1. Kelly McKenzie 2. Andrew Y 3. Adam Kemezis 4. Subash M 5. R. Hentzell 6. Vik Vaz 7. Eric Hilleman 8. Roger Bhan 9. Dave Hamilton 10. Chris Borghlum 11. Mark 12. Alice Chou 13. Jeff Bennett 14. Trey (from Texas) 15. Zeke 16. Chris Vicich Tie for 17th: Ed Cohn & Raj D. 19. Shane (Carleton) 20. Chris Idemmini 21. Chris Goheen 22. Gabe (Carleton) 23. Nathan F. 24. Dave Kanon 25. Chris S. (from Texas) 26. Hair Boy (UIUC) Dropped out after seeding rounds because they asked to write some questions for the finals: Paul, Ben, Noel from Michigan. (Due to some sort of computer error, we did not use their questions in the tourney, but they were fun to play on afterwards!) Thanks for all who came; I was impressed with both the strength and the patience (given the format fun in the morning) of the entire field. Special thanks also to Matt for providing most of the questions, as well as Sue (whose last name I can't remember), Mike Altman, Leah Williams, and others who moderated. -MZ P.S. I have complete Chicago Open results on my computer but no time now to get the stats out of Statkeeper. More tomorrow...
