I still don't think this community is large enough to be able to sustain 5-6 different Y!groups that are anywhere near as vibrant as this one. Not to mention that I am sure I speak for a lot of people when I say that I lack the spare time and desire to follow six different sets of announcements and discussions. And while I am not the first to point this out, I think trash tournaments and academic tournaments are more similar than dissimilar, and many/most of the issues that come up at trash tournaments are also issues at academic tournaments. Discussions of items like adult content in trash questions that generally don't seem to pertain to academic tournaments are more the exception than the rule. Maybe if there were scores of such messages every day for weeks on end, I would support a separate group for such discussions. But I think our default presumption should be that posts on quizbowl issues deserve the widest possible propagation to any entities who might be even remotely interested in them. And while I don't _think_ Dr. Levinson intended to offend anyone who plays, officiates, or administers primarily at trash/TRASH tournaments, I do think he has created a solution in search of a problem. Of course, it would be ideal if this group were threaded and it were easier to ignore those fast-growing threads that spring up every so often that some people would rather ignore. And if anyone is trying to compare discussions of the distribution of minor arcana in trash tournaments to "meow" and its variants, they are being patently ridiculous. -Tim Young
