Just a
quick thought inspired by CMU's tournament...total
point differential, defined as the sum of(your points -
opposing points) over all games, is used as a tiebreaker
in a lot of tournaments, but it doesn't adjust for
difficulty of rounds; a win of 5-0 has the same differential
value as one of 405-400. Would it be more meaningful to
use an "absolute differential" defined
as:
---
\ P(team) - P(opp)
> ----------------
/
P(team) + P(opp)
---
over all games
involving a given team?
