Stand said: "Overall, what is lacking here is a total lack of brotherhood and solidarity within the circuit." In my opinion, there isn't much about quiz bowl that encourages brotherhood and solidarity. I'd say a great number of players at any given event are running on low levels of sleep. To keep the thing on schedule commentary has to be kept to a minimum, and when you don't really know who the other team is there may not be much of a reason to converse with them, as opposed to your teammates with whom you (presumably) spent a lot of time with. Add to this frustration that comes from negs, hoses, sitting on questions, and the pressure of trying to beat the other team to twentysome answers. Granted, I'm not a very outgoing person, and some people do make the effort that I don't. The problem gets compounded on yahoo, since in this forum I don't know most of you, and most of you don't know me. So people say the sort of thing they shouldn't. However, it is wrong to say good teams are jerks. For example, the players for Carleton are consistantly good and consistantly respectful of their fellow players. I think it would help to realize that this is not a "combination of holy sacrament, Indian torture, and sexual ectasy," but it is some that we are devoting a considerable amount of time to.
