It seems like we have 2 prevailing opinions here: 1. The good teams seem to say "We're good, we're going to smash anyone in our way as mercilessly as possible, and we don't care about the circuit, so fuck getting more teams involved and having the game continue if and when we decide to retire and enter the real world, rather than spending our *ENTIRE* lives playing quiz bowl". 2. The lesser teams (like any that DPU puts up, admittedly) are (and were) born of the idea that the game is fun and that anyone can have a good time playing and will get better with work. We bring inexperienced teams to tourneys to show how good the good are and what we need to work on. I wish more schools did this, rather than segregating the "A" team from the freshmen. Overall, what is lacking here is a total lack of brotherhood and solidarity within the circuit. Sometimes, people will stick their necks out and stand up for other people (as Anthony, Edmund and others have been kind enough to do for me), but by in large people are out for their own devices and couldn't care less about everyone else. Gee, seems like just last weekend (even though we had gotten smashed by good competition), I was singing the praises of players like Chris Romero, who actually apologized to one of my freshmen this week for the beating he handed down. He was being humble, not boastful. I can respect that, and it's obvious Chris shares the same respect for the circuit that I do and wishes that it expand to as many people as wish to put in the time. Frankly, anyone who doesn't see it that way might as well stay home, as I don't give a damn about playing against you -- you've already lost sight of why we play in the first place. Stan J.
