This is just a guess, Matt, but when you took self-assessments in high school to recommend potential careers, was "Sales" not the first choice? DePauw gave people running ACF their money. One of their players made the claim that they still got slaughtered, which made accessibility an issue to them. They get yelled at by one of the heads of ACF and called "illogical malcontents" by you. For ACF Regionals, DePauw's money will still be accepted, but they'll be mocked because they raised something that ACF considered stupid. Even if it is stupid, they were one of the teams that showed up at ACF Regionals that ACF was ostensibly trying to attract. Microsoft, Proctor and Gamble, Lockheed Martin, Disney, Wal Mart and General Electric are nice to people who complain, no matter how stupid their comments are. This is because they want your money and want you to feel that you're getting a good deal. Disney, which sells enjoyment rather than strike aircraft, is exceptionally good at this because people will go to their competitor if they don't feel that they're being treated well. If ACF is selling some version of a good time, their p.r. is even more critical - and nasty comments by someone heavily involved in ACF do make a difference. NAQT doesn't seem to care if the comment is stupid - they have Division II and undergraduate championships that at least show some desire to address the problem, even if it's a shallow solution. Complaints about who qualifies for Nationals that were pretty juvenille were addressed by NAQT reps in a measured and restrained manner, even if their underlying response was "sorry, no sale". Maybe ACF does need some more business questions...
