5. I remember a couple years ago when we first started playing at Marquette. Our first non-CBI tournament was an NAQT invitational series thing at Quincy and I remember how delighted I was to hear a question on Roger Bacon. Then we played at ACF regionals and Nationals. Yes, we were stomped. And we loved it. We'd at least heard of most of the answers by the end even though we were beaten to them and all it did was give us a determination to come back better--unfortunately we all graduated and the like--but if we had discovered the game a couple years before... We were completely a novice team and we didn't exactly find ACF hard--the opposing teams were just better than us. ACF has never been hard as far as I can tell (except maybe the Artaud--and I'll play this game so long as there are tournaments like that, it was glorious), and last year's ACF Nationals were a little easy for a Nationals in my opinion--NAQT was probably harder based on the questions I've seen. 6. As for the same stuff coming up over and over again in ACF, that used to be true based on the questions I've seen. An-old time ACF player was playing solo last weekend and at one point he asked me since when do people write questions on the contents of literary works instead of on the authors--so, yes, it used to be a game about list knowledge and anecdote bowl, thankfully it's not anymore--though it can still have a residue of that in the south. Things are a little slower down here. Of course, last weekend contained more biography than normal cause that's part of making the game easier. Easier questions mean the same stuff coming up over and over again folks unless you want trash and current events. 6. As for this whole grad student thing--almost all the good grad student players were good undergrad players. Oh, and grad school doesn't give you an advantage, in fact it's the opposite. I'm convince that I would have been a better player in undergrad than I am now. It's those undergrad survey courses that help you in this game. I'll shut up now, Nathan
