"1) Why do we accept that someone who claims not to have the time to memorize seven or eight answers per game has the time to memorize thousands of items on lists?" I am not sure all of us have. Now, it _has_ been a common complaint over the years that ACF rewards list-memorizers. Someone made the observation that the player in question got lots of lazily written TUs that reward "list knowledge." Except that lazy question writing is by no means exclusive to ACF, at least not to the extent that a player could expect 4 or 5 times as many of those such questions at an ACF tournament as opposed to a non-ACF tournament. Maybe this would have been a strong defense five years ago ; it sounds too much like a post-hoc justification (if not necessarily a lie or even entirely false) for my tastes today. That doesn't mean there aren't other explanations besides cheating though. "2) Why has no one looked at comparative bonus scores?" Interesting question : The affirmative defense of different teammates and the "shadow effect" might be in part reflected by the point totals and bonus conversion the teams put up. However...the burden of proof, frankly, is on the accuser. I admit to having my suspicions aroused but I am certainly not ready to support punishment or sanctions or anything of the sort. It would be interesting to see if the people there have any observations about the Scripps-HMC team and how they did in general at these events. My ability to weigh in is compromised by not having been there. "3/4) If Cam was guilty, what reason would he have for telling the truth for a second in his message? Doesn't accepting what he has to say at face value imply that you've already decided he's innocent?" He's put up a defense, and he has a right to be heard if nothing else.
