I'll start out with a huge "Thank you!" to CalTech for hosting Technophobia 7, and to Richard Mason especially for accepting our packet late. Thanks a lot, guys! You run a great tournament. Despite the overall fun that seemed to have been had by all on the West Coast this weekend, I do have a few gripes: 1) Deep Bench: What's the idea with false clues? That didn't make any sense at all. Also, many of the questions basically gave the answer away in the first sentence. 2) Trash: I preface this with the statement that I'm not a trash player, so I don't know if the questions were good or bad. People seemed to be enjoying themselves, so I guess the questions were good. However, as a moderator who read seven rounds of the tournament that was held at Scripps, I have a very serious beef with the question writers' grammar and spelling. It was an odd question that didn't have some sort of bizzare grammatical construction, extra words, missing words, misspelled words, the wrong words, or some other such mistake in it. That makes the questions very difficult for the moderator to read, which means that the packet takes up more time. This request goes out to question writers everywhere: Please, please, read over your question once you've written it and make sure that there aren't any grammatical or spelling mistakes in it. It takes approximately 5 seconds per question and saves the moderators a lot of grief. I hope everyone has had a good weekend. Jerry
