On the two issues of the day... 1.) I definitely did not like the lies. Some of them seemed to have some context I wasn't aware of, but others were clearly out of the blue. Also, most seemed to involve some sort of Trash knowledge, though that may just be because I don't know much Trash so that stuck out more. If the perception is accurate, then it has implications for distribution I'm not sure I'm comfortable with. The greatest effect on me was just to throw me off the scent of things. 2.) I have no problem with the links and wouldn't mind having it again in the future. Greater clarity on how closely things should be linked would help in the future, I think. It also probably eliminates the "defensive bonus," which probably has some good aspects as far as quiz bowl theory goes. Of course, I do have a definite sentimental attachment to randomness - I've been in too many matches that went down to the last bonus waiting in anticipation of what it would be to feel completely at peace in an all-linked world. It will be interesting to see if this technique spreads, and how people take to it. Of course, on both of these, it's a matter of preference. If there are future tournaments with lies, then I'll just put that as a check in the column of reasons not to go to a given tournament, and more power to those who love them. Brian
