This is not to say that I mind a broader array of
answers. I personally prefer packets balanced
geographically and with respect to historical time, and if that
means "tougher" packets oh well. But I recognize that
there is a real interest in both "expanding the canon"
to non-Western subject matter and assuring general
"accessibility" - I'm just not sure that these are particularly
compatible ends.
If a packet is going to be both
"accessible" and "more diverse," I think the end result will
be LESS diverse packets - that is, more repeat
answers (especially tossups) from tournament to
tournament. (even though the people-events who are answered
tend to be less white and less male)
