I have no siblings, so I can't help out with any family history. The _Wired_ article, BTW, mentioned that autism and Asperger's seem to be increasing in the vicinity of Silicon Valley, and the writer wondered whether it was due to double doses of the alleles that make up the "geek" genotype! (Hmmm, that would be interesting, and perhaps plausible, but I'd also like to see some environmental data; f'rinstance, is the region highly polluted with endocrine-disrupting chemicals, which are suspected to affect behavioral development?) It's interesting, though, how much my own answers on the "AQ test" vary. For instance, I sometimes make repetitive motions, need a lot of solitude to recharge my batteries, and occasionally have trouble reading people (although I think that a lowered sensitivity towards social cues was merely a defense I learned at an early age in order to keep from being driven nuts by a few somewhat histrionic relatives). :-) However, I'm about as far from "hard to distract" as you can imagine; in fact, last year I was (tentatively) diagnosed with mild adult ADD. There's another question I've had for a while; I've long wondered whether some ADD characteristics wouldn't be a positive boon for a QBer, and whether ADD diagnoses are common in this community. For one thing, just a tad of distractibility is great for making those huge mental leaps that lead your thumb to the buzzer! Julie Ritalin, no. Caffeine, si. :-)
