To Jeremy:
If you're worried about
fatiguing the players--more of a concern in DivII, perhaps,
than DivI--you could always do a double RR, and then
have the teams play best-of-three matches to settle
1-2, 3-4, and 5-6; that would take 13 rounds. [Of
course, if more teams come, you could just do a double RR
and be done with it.]
And, to add to what Eric
said, here at Penn Bowl, rounds were running at a
30-minute clip throughout the day, even though each bracket
had to wait for all seven rooms to finish before
proceeding to the next round.

long ago are you talking about? One-day tournaments
had already taken over the majority by around 1996 or
so....
