Greetings from Berkeley, The following are the results from the NAQT 2002 West Coast SCT held Saturday, 9 February 2002 at The University of California at Berkeley. After going 13-1 in the round robin with sole loss to CalTech A - a max-2 game final was needed with Berkeley holding a one game advantage. CalTech won that first game 295-270 forcing a final match which Berkeley won 425-245. The Division I Undergraduate championship went to Berkeley B (Eok Ngo, Ray Luo, Matt Levine, Juliana Froggatt and Amar Hatti) with a 9-5 record. Berkeley B and Stanford A played a 3rd place playoff with identical structure as the one described above - Stanford A given a one game advantage who won the first and thus only game. Division II was won by CalTech B (Jordan Boyd-Graber, Harris Nover and Ben Aronin) who went 15-0 in their bracket. So despite an electrical short that effected the sockets yet not the lights in two of the rooms (fancy that) - and caused us to relocate - things went rather smoothly and on time. Let me thank Matt Bruce and Chris Nolte for coming over from San Francisco to help us out, to the rest of the moderators: Jerry Vinokurov, Scott Olson, David Goldfarb and Andy Penner who helped me set things up, make photocopies and choose some prizes. Props to David Farris and Kirsten Chevalier for bringing the bagels and juice and again to Kirsten for doing an efficient and quick job on stats. Thanks to my scorekeepers, Devang Parekh, David Boyk, Michael Grisolia, Gina Braden, Kathryn Stanonik. That should do it. Individual stats to follow in the next post. Regards, Ross Ritterman TD, 2002 NAQT West Coast SCT
