Below is an idea. Take it or leave it, but I think it bears consideration. Currently, quizbowl heavily depends on this group for a significant number of items. It provides one-stop shopping for tournament invites, results, invitations, and debates. It's experienced so much growth because it offers faster results than any mailing list. As it becomes even more popular, it's eliminated some items on web pages. This is fine if Yahoo! is always working and free. It is not fine if Yahoo! starts charging, goes down for a significant period of time, or has other problems. I think it's safe to say that keeping this group up is not as critical to Yahoo! as it is to us. This is not the best logistics arrangement, and a backup plan in case it happens seems to be wise. That leads to the question of whether we still have a mailing list (I'm doing my best to slowly extricate myself from qb, so I'm currently uninformed here) to, in the case that Yahoo! becomes unfeasable for whatever reason, we still have some way of transmitting messages to the community. If so, it would seem wise that we post information on it every two or three weeks to inform new members of its existence. If not, it may be worth it to get cracking on finding a mailing list that can be activated if Yahoo! goes down for three days before ACF Nationals or significantly changes its TOS. Just an idea. Consider it at your leisure.
