I am trying to gauge interest in an all-science mini-tournament to be held on the same weekend as the Chicago Open/Capitol Punishment tournaments and mirrors. This would be the weekend of July 26th and/or August 3rd. The format would be 2-person teams (single players allowed), round- robin play on 20/20 packets, plus some playoff rounds. This would be optional packet submission (submit full packet, play for free; half packet, $10; no packet, $20), plus central editing and some central writing. Right now, we have Jason Paik, Kirsten Chevalier, and myself lined up to deal with central writing/editing. The total number of rounds will depend on amount of interest across the country, but we're hoping for at least 12 rounds. Here's our proposed distribution: 4 biology 4 chemistry 4 physics 3 math/CS 3 earth science/astronomy/astrophysics 2 technology/engineering/history/miscellaneous (there will probably be subdistributions at some point) Target difficulty level is something like 2002 ACF Regionals; we're hoping for science questions with real content and depth, but above all accessible. We're interested in offering this tournament anywhere there's sufficient interest. I believe GWU, Chicago, and UC Berkeley will all be running tournaments on the appropriate weekends, there may be some other schools I missed. If you are interested, contact whoever's in charge at the appropriate site and let them know. Our plans are still tentative, and open to suggestions for improvement. Contact me at satelite_at_... with suggestions, comments, or questions. Thanks, -Seth
