I am pleased to annouce that the third annual incarnation of my open trash tournament, F.O.G.H.A.T. (Face-Off Gauging High Achievement in Trash) will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2002. This year's installment is entitled FOGHAT 2002: Less Chat, More Hat and will be held on the lovely University of Missouri-Rolla campus and will be organized in conjunction with my quizbowl alma mater, the University of Missouri-Rolla Academic Competition Organization. Below is a list of some common possible questions about the tournament and some possible answers. Please contact me at jmwhite_at_... if you have any other questions. Who is running FOGHAT? Yours truly, Jeremy White, will organize the event and serve as tournament director. Ben Lea will be serving as Assistant Tournament Director. The UMR ACO will also help coordinate the event and provide some of the staff. Do I need to write questions?' No, 14 packets of questions will be written for the event by Jeremy White and Ben Lea. What's the tournament format? Untimed games (20 TU and Bonus) using popular culture and sports questions. Competition wise, the tournament will consist of a round robin of some type followed by a playoff of some type. Exact details will be determined after field size is known. Who is eligible to play? It is an open tournament, so anyone can play except the tournament authors. What will it cost? The team fee will be $60/team for competition and $5/player for lunch (which will be brought in to make sure we get out of there at a decent time on Sunday). A $10 discount will be given for teams bringing a competent moderator and/or working buzzer system. A $5 discount will be given to any team consisting of participants in Rollapalooza (as either player or volunteers). What if I cannot find a team or if I need an extra player to complete my team? Send an e-mail to me at jmwhite_at_... and I will be happy to try to match you up with other interested players. Can I mirror FOGHAT at another location? UTC is on board as the Southeast mirror. I am interested in other locations, especially West Coast and Northeast. E-mail me at jmwhite_at_... if you are interested in mirroring the tournament. Will Darling Mookie be performing at FOGHAT again this year? Yes, Darling Mookie, the world's finest sports oriented cover and parody band (Ben "Paul" Lea, Jeremy "John" White and Chris "Partho" "George" Taylor will be performing another composition for lunchtime entertainment as they did at last year's FOGHAT and TRASH Heartland Regional. Will there be prizes? If Foghat.com still has them in stock, the top team trophy will once again be the hauntingly beautiful Fog hat. Many other prizes will be given and they will be trashy. How do I register or ask questions not answered here? Send an e-mail to Jeremy ( jmwhite_at_... ). Thanks and I hope to see you at FOGHAT, Jeremy M. White
