*While the Top Community College continued to be recognized at ICT since the launch of the CCCT in 2009, NAQT's website says the ICT team is "not considered a national champion" by NAQT. As of the 2015, recognition of the Top Community College at the ICT will no longer occur.
**The tournament was announced to return in 2015, but was canceled.
***HSAPQ ended operations in 2017. A 2018 incarnation of NASAT may occur under different management, but as of this writing has not been announced.
‡A sequel to CULT, COLT, was run as Chicago Open Trash in 2011, but was not billed as a national championship.
§NHBB recognizes the top middle school, top solo team, and top small school based on their final finish at the National History Bowl, but these are not generally considered 'national championships' per se, because they are rarely directly played off, among other reasons. Thus, they are not listed here. The actual championship for middle schools is a separate event held on the same weekend as the middle school History Bee and is listed above.
