The team was coached by Dennis Scobbie, a member of the [[IHSSBCA Hall of Fame]], throughout the 1990s and 2000s. In 2009 they finished 2nd in the IHSA Tournament, and in 2010 they won the small school division of Masonic State, the first time that the Illinois State Masonic Tournament had a small school division. The stars of these teams were Evan Daigle and Peter York. Amanda Lamore then coached the team for three years, during which time they were a strong small school led in scoring by David York. The team finished 4th at the first [[SSNCT]] in 2014.

Litchfield High School is a public high school in Litchfield, Illinois, between Springfield and St. Louis. It competes in Class A, the "small school" division, of the Illinois High School Association's (IHSA) State Championship Series.

Throughout the 1990s & 2000s, the team was coached by Dennis Scobbie, a member of the IHSSBCA Hall of Fame. Under whose leadership, Litchfield competed as one of the strongest small schools representing southern & downstate Illinois. Culminating in a State runner-up finish at the IHSA Tournament in 2009 & a Masonic State Championship in the first year of the two-class system in 2010. Following Scobbie's retirement in 2011, the program built off this momentum soaring to a IHSA state championship & finishing 4th at the first NAQT SSNCT in 2014 under Coach Amanda Lamore.

Lamore stepped away as coach the following year. Unfortunately, the team has not seemed to fully regain the glory it once saw. Within two years of Litchfield's championship, Conference rival Southwestern quickly skyrocketed past the Purple Panthers to become the perennial powerhouse that it is today. Even without the hardware, the team has indeed remained competitive. Staying in the upper half of Conference standings, making solid tournament appearances, & still regularly nominating All-Sectional worthy players.

Another contributor to Litchfield's success has been the accredited to the enthusiastic support shown by the community & school admins. For many years, road signs proclaiming the team's success were displayed outside of town.
