I speak herein as a GW player addressing the Maryland organization. I reply publicly only because the insinuations made against us were public. Normally, I would respond to any accusations of foul play privately first. Excuse me for seeming a little frazzled, but I have just woken up. Something I was doing yesterday -- I can't for the life of me think of what -- left me tired enough to sleep for sixteen hours in a row and entirely miss the sun today. But seriously, anyone who complained as much as you did about GW's staffing yesterday really has no right to complain about GW's not showing at Terrapin. I was at last year's Terrapin -- where, I might point out, the questions were NOT compared unfavorably to (depending on the mercy of the comparer) either NAQT internationals or CBI regionals -- and GW's win-loss record was better than 50% wins. Why weren't we back this year? Well, it's just this simple: we're good at ACF, and good at ACF as played by Maryland, but it just isn't FUN. Maryland has a long, tall-standing tradition and it's held to it for a long time. That tradition includes: + Rude, hostile, immature staff and players + Questions of limited intellectual merit, relying heavily on rote recall as opposed to utility, interest, or academic relevance + Questionable integrity -- even at this stage I am hesitant to call it "dishonesty" -- as to the active-inactive status of players + A pathetic tendency of said players to continue their QB careers well past their own graduations I recognize that UMCP had no need to rig Terrapin. College Park's long-term strategy -- narrow the canon beyond any reasonable level of obscurity, then offend every team within a day's drive -- assures that organization of one or two tarnished victories a year. In victory at their own tournament, UMCP have proven themselves of occasionally winning a competition. However, in making accusations against the organizations of Georgetown, George Washington, and George Mason, Maryland has proven themselves without honor. Which position is preferable is Maryland's own choice. Edmund
