I would like to say that the Berry Tournaments that > I competed in (1999 and 2000) might have been in the same format (20 > Tossups/Bonuses) that we play now, but the caliber of questions (and > competition, for that matter) was completely a different universe. I'm going to disagree with your take on the caliber of questions used for the Berry College Two-Year Tournament, Lee. My Valencia teams competed with your Snead St. team there, and we've been there eight times. The questions there were written for the most part by Don Wyndham and Carol Guthrie, and though they may not have been as difficult as questions you'd see at, say, ACF Regionals, they were indeed similar in structure. Indeed, at risk of aggravating Don and Carol, I'll back up my point by saying that at times they filled out Berry packets with questions from the old Tennessee Masters, knowing that no CC players would've been at that tournament in the mid-90s. Further, the competition there could be pretty good. Just off the top of my head, some of the players who competed in that tournament in the last 6-7 years include Raj Bhan, Eric Floyd, Jim Baker (#5 scorer in Div. II ICT last year), Mitch Alday (who went on to play at Berry), Gene WhoselastnameIforget (who played with Mitch on those strong Berry teams of the late 90s), and of course, yourself. Regardless, I would consider you Division II in any tournament in which you and your Athens St. teammates hadn't already played more than once. --chris borglum > > > --- In quizbowl_at_yahoogroups.com, Stephen Taylor > <stephen_taylor_qb_at_y...> wrote: > > > > Lee, > > First, let me make it clear that I have no jurisdiction in > deciding the matter, as I do not direct any tournaments.
