GUT 2004 November 13, 2004 at Grinnell College The Basics The Grinnell College Academic Team will be holding the second annual Grinnell Undergraduate Tournament (GUT) on November 13, 2004, in sunny (?) Grinnell, IA. (Grinnell, for those of you unfamiliar with the location, is midway between Iowa City and Des Moines on I-80). This tournament will follow NAQT rules, a list of which are available at http://www.naqt.com/. (The exception to this is that rounds will be untimed). Each team attending will be guaranteed at least 9 rounds, with more possible in playoff rounds. This tournament is CUT-style, which means that teams of experienced players are capped at 2 players apiece and highly experienced players play solo. If you are unfamiliar with the format, also used Carleton's CUT and DePauw's DUNCE, look at the official eligibility rules, <http://www.naqt.com/hosting/cut-style.html>. Schedule 8:30 am — Registration 9:00 am — Tournament play begins Around noon — Lunch break 3:00 pm — End of rounds 6:00 pm — End of playoffs The times above for lunch, end of round-robin play, and end of tournament play are all dependent on how quickly the tournament plays out. We'll try to stick to them, but the pace of a tournament is hard to gauge ahead of time. The Money $50 per first team -$10 per moderator -$5 per working buzzer system Minimum Fee: $30/team The Place The tournament will be held in Alumni Recitation Hall, on the Grinnell campus. Complete directions are available from I-80. The Rest We are tentatively limiting registration to 32 teams, but this number is flexible. To register, send an email to quizbowl_at_..., including the number of teams and a contact person for your team. After the tournament, complete team and individual statistics will be posted.
