Hey, I don't mean to sound like a jerk here, but I couldn't help but notice that this is an academic tournament on the same date as Illinois Open and within a few hours travel of it, in spite of the fact that I announced the date for Illinois Open over two months ago. Frankly, I don't see how this benefits either Grinnell or us and I don't understand why they have chosen to schedule their event at this time. While I appreciate that almost everyone needs to run events in order to fund their programs, this is an event that ought not require anything like a great deal of logistical planning, and one that needs no editing whatsoever. Therefore, I don't see what could have constrained them to use this date, as there are plenty of open weekends on which to hold events. Furthermore, from Grinnell's lack of response to my e-mail about this tournament, which I sent within hours of their posting the announcement for it, I am forced to conclude they plan on using this date whether I like it or not. Well, I don't like it, and you shouldn't like it, either. Without the reasonable expectation that announced tournament dates won't be taken by other nearby teams, I really don't see how the invitational circuit can hope to function. I find this state of affairs unsatisfactory, and I wish that Grinnell would contact me to bring it to a satisfactory resolution.
