So, I just noticed this part of the tournament invitation: > The tournament director reserves the right to expel players from the > tournament for what I judge to be excessive negative criticism of the > TD or other players or moderators. .... > Players will be appropriately warned multiple times before I > resort to expulsion. A team that has a member expelled may not play > with more than 3 players (or one fewer player than it had playing > when it had the most players playing) until it has heard 20 tossups > playing short. Once a player has been expelled he or she may not play > any more games at the tournament and will be expected to moderate > for the remainder of the tournament. Teams with players refusing to > comply with this policy may be charged extra fees and/or have > discounts taken away at my discretion. While you're at it, why don't you penalise for excessive criticism of the tournament after it's over? If someone posts excessively negatively, you should force them to pay double the tournament fees, or write three packets, or work as unpaid bodyservants for you. Sarcasm aside, I can't imagine a universe in which this would be a good idea. It has always been a part of the game that unruly players can be expelkled from the game or even the tournament, but the only time I have ever heard of that happening is when a player is causing a disturbance _in a game_ such that play cannot continue. Criticising players, moderators, or TDs outside in the hallway does not qualify as this, but instead sounds like a weapon with which can make sure the mood is pleasant or deflect expressions of dissatisfaction with your tournament, gestures which are rarely appreciated. I cannot but think it would be better if you ditched this.
