I agree with Jon that region 1 may be at its most competitive this year. I won't make a prediction, though. Don't want to make anyone mad so they won't vote me best moderator! I will take my place as BU's institutional memory, though, and note that WPI was a regular in CBI, and was a semifinalist in 1995. They even went to invitationals for a while, including at least one Tussle. As far as trying to recruit CBI teams into going to other events, I've found that up here it's not as much about funding as much as the idea that people do this almost weekly. I remember getting into a fairly long discussion about "the circuit" the last time the regional was at PC, and getting a fair share of quizzical looks (no pun intended). We did have some cross-over, but with very little sucess. UMass-Lowell came to the ACF regional back in, what, '96 or '97, and they didn't return. Amherst made some overtures as well, but I don't remember if they did show at any non-CBI stuff. Which is why stressing the fun aspect may work, as it's probably the one angle regional-only teams may understand fully. Concerns over question quality, cost, and other things that regular players rue don't really effect someone who only knows CBI. As for regions not running some sort of full or fuller round robin, that stinks. If anyone from CBI is reading, can you please consider some minimum game requirement? I know staffing can be an issue, but with the proper incentives, more active teams would probably provide more useful staff. That's enough from me. Mark
