Well, at least it got people talking... The point is this: If you're going to sign up for a big tournament like SCT, do your homework first. One team said they just now figured out no one had a car. This is ludicrous. How do you not know something like that? To Wash U's credit, they said at the very outset they were not sure who could drive -- they were stand-up about the fact this might happen, as much as it stinks to have to occur. It's much easier to stomach teams like that (who also still send moderators and teams for DUCK Bowl) than teams that just do something stupid and commit to things. Amanda is not an unreasonable person, but when 4 teams cancel in 4 days, a tournament director starts to pull his or her hair out. Per your suggestion, Mike, there's no fiasco just yet. The tournament still has 20 teams, and fairly good competition, at that (this certainly includes teams from Illinois). It'll still be a good weekend of quiz bowl, I'm confident. In fact, all teams now get to play more games because of the cancellations, so hopefully everyone playing will find some benefit in the change to the schedule. But teams can only find this out if they don't cancel at the last minute. Stan Jastrzebski, not officially for DUCKS Quiz Bowl, whom he has faith will do a good job If I decide not to go to your > tournament as a result of this fiasco, I'm not paying you a thing. > > MaS
