First off, I would like to apologize, because when I posted, I was tired and angry. My goal is to have an SCT that is well run and enjoyable. The original post was not intended as something that people should get pissy about. I was hoping that some of the teams who had just cancelled due to what I see as fairly amendable circumstances would reconsider or try to work something out, and also prevent anyone else from dropping out. And, just so you know, I said teams who have already dropped out MAY be assessed the fine. I did not say they WOULD be assessed the fine. Of course its impossible to charge someone after the fact. I know that; I'm not stupid. But it WAS meant to make every single person think about how much your team dropping out affects the school hosting the tournament and those attending. On behalf of future DPU tournaments and any tournament your school may attend: if there is even the SLIGHTEST chance that you might not attend (due to transportation, money issues, etc) PLEASE let the TD know right away, before confirming. I know I appreciate it, as I'm sure other TDs do as well. Of course emergencies and unforseen circumstances are going to occur, and I understand that. But I have been TD for 3 DPU tournaments now, and every one of the tournaments I have had teams drop out with 2-0 days left. One tournament in particular, we had a team drop day of due to a few members having hangovers. This, in my opinion, is far from acceptable, and my original post was more of a reaction to the fear this type of thing would happen again. My intent is not to alienate anyone or any team. I don't have any hard feelings toward anyone, or any team. I just would like a little more consideration for the time and efforts my team is putting into this tournament, because we want those attending to have a good day. So, barring emergencies, I look forward to seeing all those teams still registered to come to DPU this Saturday. Amanda Hartman
