At the risk of being perceived as a wet blanket, I have to say that I'm not too thrilled with the idea of having character classes at any tournament, even trash. I don't mind the idea of gamesmanship and strategy (i.e. timed formats, bonus laming), but the reason I play at tournaments is to answer questions and see how my team can fare against other teams on the question material. In fairness, I don't have to attend a tournament with character classes, and will not be attending this one due to the fact that Baltimore is a bit far from Dallas. However, I will play at tournaments with less than three teammates, and it seems to me that playing shorthanded would be more of a disadvantage under this system. As for the comment that "all in all, you shall drive home from this tourney bitter and angry at your teammates...Hurrah!",...Either I'm misreading you or I have a philisophical disagreement with that statement. Maybe I've seen too many pro sports teams fail to live up to their potential because of poor team play, or because I like to be on teams that mesh well, but I just don't see the fun factor in this proposed scoring system. Please take these comments as my own opinions, and if I should be behind the times, maybe I should just spend the quizbowl portion of my free time on other events. Brian
